The 2009 Book Lover’s Ball

Mar 23 2009

A passionate love story with reading as its protagonist revealed itself February 12, 2009, as celebrity guests and revered authors commingled and schmoozed at The Book Lover’s Ball. A regal affair lighting up a banquet hall at The Fairmont Royal York, a silent and live auction engaged the senses as swanky cocktails and delectable hors d’oeuvres crafted by Chef Massimo Capra of Food Network Canada’s Restaurant Makeover delighted fine palates. Centrepieces blooming with baby’s breath exhaled magic into the air as Margaret Atwood, The Rt. Hon. Paul Martin, Christie Blatchford, Colin and Justin, David Rocco and other personalities shook and shimmied with 600 hundred guests during an impressive fashion show presented by Harlequin. Canadian couture took the stage, with models sashaying the catwalk with styles from decades past by designers Lucian Matis, Ross Mayer, Farley Chatto, Greta Constantine and more. The most successful year yet, The Book Lover’s Ball raised $358,000, with proceeds going to the city’s literary giant, the Toronto Public Library Foundation. www.bookloversball.ca, www.torontopubliclibrary.ca
