Giovanni Siracusa: The Home Cook

The beloved home cook shares his passion for authentic flavours and simple recipes with the world. For Giovanni Siracusa the kitchen is the heart of the home. Raised in a loving multi- generational household, he grew up surrounded by grandparents, aunts, and uncles, where family life unfolded around food and shared traditions. His grandfather took care of a backyard garden, ensuring that every square inch of soil was utilized. His grandmother spent much of her time in the kitchen, transforming those fresh ingredients into meals that brought everyone together. In a home where something was always simmering on the stove and someone was always stopping by, food became both a love language and a catalyst for living the sweet life.

Siracusa’s love of cooking began early, shaped by countless hours spent beside his grandmother watching, learning, and eventually helping. For him, the kitchen was never intimidating — it felt instinctive (and I’m sure his family made cooking look easy). Some of his earliest memories are tied to traditional holiday preparations: late nights of rolling rice balls, baking cookies, and making pizza well past midnight as the family gathered around. Those remembered moments, rich with laughter and heritage, formed the foundation of his relationship with food.

Q: Why do you think people are drawn to watching you prepare recipes?

A: I think people are drawn to watching me prepare recipes because I’m not a professional chef. I take a simple approach to cooking and all of my recipes are easy to replicate at home. They don’t include a million ingredients or fancy techniques; they’re really just all about homestyle cooking.

Q: What is the best compliment you have ever received from your fans?

A: When people tell me they appreciate how clearly and simply I explain things that means a lot. Hearing that my content makes them feel confident enough to cook at home is the greatest compliment I could receive.

Q: What is your favourite city to visit and why?

A: Rome is my favourite city to visit. My wife and I often go, and we always seem to find something new. There is definitely a certain energy in the city, with layers of history everywhere.

Q: Which brands do you prefer to use in your kitchen?

A: I used to buy whatever was convenient or cheap, but now I have become more intentional. I look for pieces that are well-made and built to last. I look for good craftsmanship and pieces that feel timeless rather than trendy. I recently bought a pan on my last trip to Italy from Ballarini that I love.

Q: What is your favourite dish to prepare?

A: Bolognese — I have a very traditional but unique way of making it and, in my opinion, it comes out perfect every time.

Q: If you could cook for anyone, who would it be?

A: My grandmother. She passed away before I began sharing my cooking publicly, and I know how meaningful it would be to cook for her now.

Q: What academic studies have helped you with your career?

A: My academic background is in finance and education. Working in both fields taught me skills that I have been able to translate into how I approach content creation today.

Q: What was the best business advice you ever received?

A: Focus on doing something you genuinely care about. When your intentions are aligned and authentic, everything else tends to flow naturally.

Q: What do you believe is your superpower?

A: I believe my superpower is having a positive mindset — even when things don’t go as planned, I always look for the good.

Q: Do you have one lesson or piece of advice you would like to share with us?

A: My piece of advice would be to take things one step at a time. You don’t need to have everything planned out.

Q: Complete this sentence: “One day I will have the courage to …”

A: One day I’ll have the courage to say no more often.

Q: What are the three things you admire most in a partner?

A: My wife is very organized, confident, and driven. She keeps everything moving, and when things get overwhelming she’s the one who holds it all together.

Q: What is the secret to happiness?

A: Having gratitude for what you already have instead of constantly chasing more.

Q: What can our readers look forward to from you in the coming year?

A: 2025 was focused on social media, but 2026 will include longer YouTube videos. It will be filled with more recipes, more home cooking, and more of the simple Italian food and culture that inspires me.

Q: What is your definition of la dolce vita?

A: My definition of la dolce vita is finding joy in the everyday moments and being present enough to enjoy life now.
