The SRFI at The Creative School, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) welcomes Hamish Thwaites as its newest Fellow. Hamish is a Toronto Metropolitan University Fashion Design graduate and London-based tailoring pattern maker. He is preparing to launch his eponymous menswear label, Hamish Thwaites, in autumn 2026.
Since its inception in 2016, the Suzanne Rogers Fashion Institute has allocated $1,000,000 in direct assistance, allowing Fellows to participate in prestigious international master’s programs, create and showcase collections, present at prominent fashion weeks, and build a foothold in the global market.
This funding, along with mentorship and specialized programming, enables Fellows to refine their skills and create a significant influence on the industry. “We are very pleased to welcome Hamish Thwaites to the SRFI,” says Robert Ott, the Fashion Institute’s director. “Hamish has developed an exceptional depth of technical knowledge through years of working directly with pattern, construction, and tailoring. What distinguishes his emerging practice is how he is translating this knowledge into a clear design language and a thoughtful approach to building his own business. The SRFI will support Hamish as he makes this transition from specialist industry practitioner to designer and founder.”
This fellowship will contribute to both his business growth and artistic endeavours. Through mentorship, funding, industry networking, and business counsel, the Fellowship will offer a structure for establishing production, enhancing strategy, improving financial planning, and creating a sustainable basis for his brand.
