Revealed in Wynwood, Mazzone’s artwork The Boy captures the sunlit essence of Grand Cayman and introduces the design vision for the upcoming residences.
Art Basel Miami 2025 was in for a special treat as Canadian artist Daniel Mazzone unveiled a deeply sensitive piece created exclusively for Mandarin Oriental Residences, Grand Cayman. It’s a collaboration that bridges artistic imagination and Caribbean luxury. Titled The Boy, the 7’ x 6’ painting was revealed during a private reception near Wynwood, Miami. The thoughtful and whimsical work of art introduces a fresh design approach for soon-to-open residential enclave Mandarin Oriental Residences, Grand Cayman, marking a significant moment for both the artist and the development.

Authorized as a permanent installation for the property, “The Boy” brings out the wonder of childhood and the brightness of beginnings. The piece depicts a young figure reaching out to drifting butterflies, symbols of hope, transformation and delicate dreams. Mazzone combines his expressive techniques with the soft and sun-washed palette of Grand Cayman, producing an image that feels both nostalgic and modern. Similar to the child chasing the butterflies, the spirit of the Mandarin Oriental Residences, Grand Cayman is just as ambitious and playful, with its sanctuary designed to elevate island living into an art form.
For Mazzone, this piece reflects the belief that even the most delicate aspirations can take flight. “The artwork captures the magic of childhood ambition and the optimism of possibilities,” he shared, considering the meaningfulness of interpreting those themes through depth, colour and texture.
Artists, collectors, investors and cultural figures all attended the unveiling, including former Miami Dolphin and four-time pro bowler Xavien Howard — a fitting audience for a piece designed to anchor one of the most anticipated luxury developments in the Caribbean.
As Mandarin Oriental prepares for its 2028 opening on Grand Cayman’s immaculate St. James Point, Mazzone’s work paints the picture of a celebration of beauty, aspiration and the art of possibility.
