Ovalia Armchair: An Icon of Modern Comfort

Roche Bobois’s update of the 1968 classic adds a number of contemporary features.

Since 1960, Roche Bobois has built its reputation on celebrating renowned designers and creating a showcase for contemporary furniture. One of the latest pieces from its Fall/Winter 2026 collection, the Ovalia armchair, is an example of a classic reimagined for the modern home.

Danish designer Henrik Thor-Larsen first introduced his egg-shaped armchair in 1968. It soon became a design icon, a shiny cocoon instantly recognizable for its sculptural silhouette and space-age curves.

Preserving the essence of the original’s bold spirit, Roche Bobois has introduced new levels of comfort and customization in its 2026 version.

The Ovalia armchair’s newest iteration is customizable, with six exclusive shell colours and a large variety of upholstery fabrics to choose from. It also has an improved backrest inclination, an integrated headrest, and a seat supported by elastic straps for a more enveloping sensation.

With its roots in the futuristic style of the late 1960s, the Ovalia armchair looks remarkably comfortable in contemporary settings, yet another example of Roche Bobois’s unique approach to combining modernity, comfort and timeless design.
