Strive For Clarity: Audi’s Groundbreaking Event In Milan

Audi introduces a bold new design philosophy, focusing on clarity, innovation and the future of automotive excellence.

All roads led to Milan on the second day of September, where automotive giant Audi welcomed specially invited guests from around the world to unveil something extraordinary. And I was given a unique opportunity to be part of this exclusive event and to travel to Italy’s design capital on behalf of Dolce for Audi’s Strive for Clarity event, a name that would soon reveal its meaning.

The choice of city wasn’t random — Milan has represented design and technology for centuries, making it the perfect place to mark a new era for Audi. And from the moment I stepped into the legendary Portrait Hotel, it was clear that the venue could not have been more perfectly suited to the occasion. It felt like walking into the future while honouring the past.

Once a seminary, the hotel now blends modern elegance with its storied history, creating the ideal atmosphere for Audi to introduce a new design philosophy, embracing progress while honouring its traditions. Guests enjoyed welcome drinks and engaging conversations while the stage was set for Audi CEO Gernot Döllner to explain the company’s Strive for Clarity vision.

“The phase of taking stock is over — now is the time to look to the future and pick up speed,” said Döllner. “We are focusing on what really matters, to set standards in design and quality. Clarity, focus, and commitment to implementation — that’s how we are reshaping design and the company.”

Audi has always stood for unique design, uncompromising quality and value, and the new design philosophy emphasizing clarity unmistakably embodies the brand’s identity. The event in Milan unveiled the new Audi Concept C, a concept car that sets the tone for the design of future Audi products and is the beginning of a pivotal new chapter for Audi, he said.

“We achieve clarity by reducing everything to the essential,” said Massimo Frascella, Audi’s chief creative officer, describing the universal design principles that are the basis of the company’s new design philosophy: a focus on the essential — without superfluous lines or elements — and a commitment to geometric clarity. The Audi Concept C’s vertically oriented frame, which is inspired by the iconic Auto Union Type C racing car, is designed to focus the gaze. This reduction to the essential continues inside the cabin, where the interior’s design minimizes distractions, delivering just the right information at the right time through intelligent technology.

By blocking out the noise and focusing on the essentials, this new design philosophy touches every aspect of the company known around the world by its four-interlocking-rings logo — not only embodying the simplicity of its new design but also reflecting these principles in the company’s organizational structure, while leaving space for innovation and technological leadership. As Döllner emphasized, “The way we design our vehicles is the way we will shape our company. Clarity is an ethos and the compass that will guide Audi through the times ahead.”

Audi is making no pit stops on its innovation journey. Just a few weeks after the new design philosophy was unveiled in the Strive for Clarity event in Milan, another exciting moment is already on the horizon. The Four Rings are already working on the next innovation cycle, and Audi will be entering Formula 1 in 2026. “Preparations for our start in Formula 1 are moving at full speed,” said Döllner. “We look forward to giving all fans a concrete preview of what to expect from us in Formula 1 starting next year.”

What could be more exciting than watching a global leader constantly push the boundaries in shaping its transformation? The world (including me) is watching how Audi will continue to redefine the future of automative technology and design, and expects that the road ahead will be filled with even greater breakthroughs.
