Timeless Innovation: Watchmaker Patek Philippe Introduces the ‘Cubitus Instantaneous Grand Date, Day & Moon Phases’
In its latest venture of haute horology, revered Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe, has once again redefined the art of crafting one-of-a-kind timepieces with the unveiling of its extension to the groundbreaking Cubitus collection — a milestone marking the namesake’s first new collection of watches in 25 years. The Cubitus made its debut to the public, back in October 2024, presenting three boldly elegant models: two of which featured a familiar time/date orientation and one striking a complex new big date movement.
Beginning with last year’s highly in-demand configuration reference 5821A, the A referring to “acier,” commonly known as steel in English. Striking a familiar blend of Patek Philippe house codes, the Cubitus 45mm model distinguishes itself with an all-new rounded square-edged case, an elegantly slim fit on the wrist, all faced in an eye-catching sunburst olive green colour. The steel model stands apart from its counterparts with a distinguished feel that is both modern, adaptable and, above all, timeless.
This embodiment of “Casual Chic” takes on a whole new meaning in the self-winding stainless steel and rose-gold 45mm finish 5821/1AR. Its embossed sunburst blue dial on the watch’s horizontal axis combines elegance and legibility, accompanied by rose-gold accents across the baton-style hour markers and rounded baton-style hands, all married in harmony by a white luminescent coating. The Cubitus is a master class in precision and craftsmanship, comprising 212 meticulously engineered moving parts, accented by 30 jewels and boasting a power reserve of over 38 hours. Beneath its robust casing beats the self-winding 26-330 S C caliber, featuring a stop-seconds function and a central 21K gold rotor, adorned with the same horizontal motif as the dial. With such craftsmanship that offers peace of mind for its users, the Cubitus is equipped with an adjustable lock system patented by Patek Philippe to ensure comfort and security via a fold-over clasp mechanism.
Shifting gears from the expected comes along the hero model of the trio, Instantaneous Grand Date, Day and Moon Phases, Reference 5822P. Striking a bold presence and crafted in one of the earth’s strongest metals, the platinum model involved the filing of six specific patent applications and houses an incredible 353 moving parts. Displayed through the lens of a twin aperture is the grand date positioned at 12 o’clock. Its unique and unmistakable Patek Philippe design is on full display across the 45mm of pure elegance. Accented by the contrast of polished finishes and adorned with a baguette-cut diamond set on the bezel at 6 o’clock, the Grand Date, Day and Moon Phases timepiece is in a lane of its own, enhanced by a navy-blue-composite patterned fabric strap further pushing the undeniable casual chic the Cubitus holds.
With a well-rounded array of choice between precious metals and configurations, including the namesake’s hero model released in 2024, as we continue on in the new year, the brand has debuted the Cubitus in a new medium-sized (40mm diameter) version, specially designed to suit all wrist types. This launch marks a new era for the brand, combining technical ingenuity with a bold and modern aesthetic. The Cubitus 40mm models are available in a white (7128/1G) and rose-gold (7128/1R) configuration further developing the geometry of the timepieces’ squared shape and elegant profiles.
The launch of the Cubitus collection stands as a shining example of Patek Philippe’s ability to balance technical mastery with artistic elegance. Beyond its functional brilliance, the watch embodies the Maison’s philosophy of continuous innovation, setting new standards in precision timekeeping. Each element — from the patented movement advancements to the striking geometric case — reflects a commitment to excellence that has defined Patek Philippe for generations.
