Balsam Hill: The World’s Reigning Producer of Most Realistic and Luxurious Artificial Christmas Trees

Dec 12 2024

Step into a magical world of holiday excellence with Balsam Hill and their incredible array of premium artificial Christmas trees. It has long been a tradition in our family to opt for real Canadian-grown Christmas trees, specifically Fraser fir trees, but take it from someone who is Head Elf at home — they come with a list of their own responsibilities to ensure proper care throughout the holiday season.

From remembering to water them, often more than once a day, to the endless needle droppings found throughout the house, and the inevitable gaps that develop as the tree continues to open up; real trees definitely require patience and appreciation for imperfections. Enter Balsam Hill, California-based provider of the highest-quality realistic artificial Christmas trees on the market.

Making the switch between real and artificial trees is no easy feat when it comes to family tradition, skepticism and nostalgia, that’s where Balsam Hill thrives. Founder Mac Harman found inspiration to embark on creating the highest-quality artificial trees after a family member experienced allergies to natural-grown ones, and he, himself, found it difficult to find a realistic substitution. As this article is a review, Dolce had the privilege of testing two of Balsam Hill’s Most Realistic trees in homes that have equally partaken in the tradition of picking out real Fraser fir trees for the better of 12 Christmases.

BH Frosted Fraser Fir
Available in four heights, between 5.5 feet and 9 feet, with various lighting options, the Balsam Hill Frosted Fraser Fir tree is a marvel to behold. Welcome winter magic into your home with this heavily flocked Christmas centrepiece; the lifelike foliage imbues the quiet charm of snow-covered landscapes and enchanting holiday moments. Right out of the box, the experience of opening a BH tree is an enjoyable one, with labelled sections and a supplied pair of protective gloves to make fluffing an ouch-free quick and easy task. Setup is a breeze with BH, thanks to the convenience of professionally hand-strung lighting that is pre-wired and perfectly spaced apart. Simply plug the base layer into a power source and watch as each section instantly illuminates via the central pole connection. Being a heavily flocked tree does come with the territory of “snowfall” but once it’s all set up and decorated, a quick pass of the vacuum will resolve this for the entirety of your tree being up as opposed to the continuous dropping of needles from a real tree. If a white Christmas is something you desire, this tree has you covered — and is Head Elf-approved!

BH Fraser Fir
Similar to its counterpart, the classic green Fraser Fir tree is available in six height varieties, ranging from 5.5 feet up to 12 feet. Nothing quite compares to the fullness and shape of this product, even in contrast to the Frosted Fraser Fir. With a full profile and silhouette crafted to decorating perfection, this lifelike replica makes it hard to tell the difference from afar but, most impressively, up close in the palm of your hand with its uncanny resemblance to real branches. This is thanks to the elevated True Needle Ⓡ design, which shadows the foliage of real trees, featuring 40 differentiating tips. Also, pre-lit right out of the box, this tree is ready for a gentle fluffing and ornaments within the hour. To describe the realism and sheer attention to detail that this tree possesses is unlike any other you can find at your local hardware store.

Each species of BH trees is moulded to the qualities of the real thing, from replicating colours of the undersides of branches to the feel of their waxy, almost velvety, surface texture. The needles are flexible and point slightly upward, like those found in nature. BH masterfully developed a product capable of being enjoyed for years to come with breathtaking accuracy and approval from all those who witness it. We can undoubtedly say that the righteous title of most realistic and luxurious artificial trees goes to Balsam Hill.
