Chef’s Challenge with Gordon Ramsay
In late November, Canadian culinary greats joined boisterous Chef Gordon Ramsay to cook up excitement in a fundraising effort for critical cancer research. Celebrity chefs David Rocco, Jamie Kennedy, Lynn Crawford, Mark McEwan and Massimo Capra gathered at The Carlu in downtown Toronto to duke-it-out in the kitchen at the inaugural Chef’s Challenge: The Ultimate Battle for a Cure.
By raising their collective spatulas against the often-deadly disease, these crusading chefs fired up a storm raising over $1.1 million. “We’re all touched by cancer in one form or another,” explains Kennedy. “As well-known cooks in our communities, I think we’re in this unique position to turn our attention and actions towards something positive.”
The proceeds from this entrée-inspired event support breast and ovarian cancer research and education at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute and the Marvelle Koffler Breast Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital. With hopes high and stomachs full, organizers are positive this successful event will help to defeat this lethal illness. “I’m sure there will be a cure,” explains Barbara Kerbel, president of Mount Sinai’s Hospital Auxiliary. “There has to be a cure, we have to find a cure for cancer.”
